BOLINGBROOK, Sick. (CBS) -- Bolingbrook police shot and killed a homo on Fri afternoon.
Officers were first dispatched around three:22 p.chiliad. to the 500 block of Spruce Road.
As CBS ii'southward Jermont Terry reported, investigators withal had the street blocked off nearly seven hours subsequently at 10 p.m. equally they tried to slice together the deadly constabulary shooting.
Bolingbrook police said they were called to the neighborhood because in that location was some type of quarrel between neighbors. The suspect who was shot by constabulary had apparently stabbed and killed a neighbor's dog – and so slashed homo who owned the dog.
When police arrived, they said the man did not drop the knife despite officers engaging with him. At this bespeak, it is not clear if the man holding the knife charged at officers or used the weapon in a threatening way.
But at some betoken, Bolingbrook police fired. Witnesses said they heard iii gunshots.
The commotion caught those in the neighborhood past surprise. They tried getting clarity from officers on the scene.
"I asked them, I said, like 'What'southward going on - because we live here? And it'due south like, should we exist concerned? What's really going on?'" said Annette Marroquin. "And he said, 'Well, somebody shot someone. I said 'Oh. Good to know.'"
Marroquin the officer she spoke with did not tell her it was a law officer who shot someone.
"Honestly, at first, I thought it could have been similar fireworks from a dissimilar place. Simply then I kept looking outside, and all I merely saw were cop cars," said Marlon Marroquin. "We don't hear that many sirens in this neighborhood. It's usually a very peaceful neighborhood."
Police force have not said how many officers fired their weapons, and we don't know if the two neighbors involved in the initial quarrel alive next-door to each other – nor what started the confrontation.
The stabbing victim's condition was stabilized.
Police force said it was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
The incident is under investigation by the Will-Grundy Major Crimes Task Force.
